what is virtual environmental education?
Our goal for our first year as a club was to be able to provide environmental education by going to local Chicago elementary schools to teach second through eighth grade students about sustainability and aquaponics. We previously planned to build aquaponics systems and bring them to schools to teach students about sustainable farming and why the current systems of agriculture leading the agricultural industry is unsustainable. Due to COVID-19 cancelling the rest of the school year's in-person classes, we came up with the idea to continue our goal of providing environmental education by conducting it virtually.
Virtual environmental education consists of at-home activities for elementary and middle school students in order to learn more about the environment and about climate change. As well as printable activities, videos, games, stories, and challenges, we also will do bi-weekly Zoom classes for our students. These Zoom calls are not mandatory, but during them we will teach students about the environment and what affects it in a more personal and memorable learning experience.
All of Lane Tech Sustainability Club's opportunities are completely free for use and we hope that you can take your knowledge to join us in the fight against climate change.
